Al-Khor International School (AKIS) is a non-denominational and co-educational international school that offers the National Curriculum of England and the CBSE curriculum of India. Owned by RasGas and Qatar Gas, and licensed by the Supreme Education Council (SEC), AKIS fully complies with the resolutions of the SEC and the laws of the State of Qatar
Located amid landscaped gardens in the charming Al Khor community about 45 kilometres north of Doha, AKIS caters primarily to the children of employees of RasGas and Qatargas ?? two of the largest natural gas-producing companies in world.
The school offers two separate curriculums from England and India to cater to a culturally and ethnically diverse pool of more than 3,500 students from 50 countries between the ages of four and eighteen. Students may pursue either the British or the Indian curriculum of study, and many go on to prestigious universities around the world after leaving AKIS.
With classes from kindergarten to grade 13, AKIS is a diverse community of students immersed in a strong learning culture. Alongside their academics, pupils build character and learn the values of caring for and supporting each other and the broader community. However, high academic standards remain at the forefront of the schools ??striving for excellence?? andexcellent external examination results are regularly achieved.
AKIS opened its doors in September 1999, reaching its full complement of primary and secondary classes in 2006/07. A state of the art primary school was added in April 2010. Classrooms are usually limited to 25 students or less to ensure each child gets individual attention in every subject, and the normal working hours are from 7.00 am to 1.30 pm, Sunday through Thursday.
AKIS has recently embarked on a major organisational restructuring exercise and continues to develop and to grow with the community it serves.
